Content of the study
Rising construction interest rates, a lack of personnel capacity or material shortages have repeatedly made the headlines in recent months and are making it more difficult for both private and institutional clients to realise their property.
What is less frequently reported in the media is that not only construction companies are facing considerable challenges due to the examples mentioned, but also upstream players, such as planning offices, are confronted with an increasingly challenging situation. Construction projects are becoming increasingly complex, leading to more specialisation within the industry on the one hand and consolidation on the other.
At the same time, planning offices are undergoing digital transformation and are struggling with an acute shortage of skilled labour. This initial situation, coupled with rising demand for planning services, e.g. driven by the German government's targets of building 400,000 homes a year or significantly accelerating the energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings, is increasing the need for action and transformation pressure for planning offices.
Sound and professional planning is a key pillar of the German construction industry. In this short study, we would therefore like to take a closer look at the construction planning sector, identify current challenges and long-term developments and highlight possible potential for investors.
