Content of the study

The German flat roof market is unaffected by the pandemic and continues to record stable growth. The flat roof segment is benefiting in particular from the generally crisis-resistant and positive trend in residential construction. A trend that is particularly evident in urban regions. Flat roofs have been firmly established in commercial property for several years now, although growth will slow somewhat in the coming years as demand for new commercial buildings is currently falling.

In this brief study, S&B Strategy has analysed the challenges and opportunities for flat roof product manufacturers. To this end, the market was quantified by segment and, on the basis of S&B databases and expert interviews, differentiation potentials in competition and areas of action for manufacturers were identified. They must respond to new developments such as the increasing shortage of skilled labour and increased complexity for installers, planners and the specialist trade. A key role in this transformation process is played by customised customer solutions and a company-specific identification of future target competencies, which should be translated into a clear M&A strategy with regard to possible acquisitions and sales.
